Is Nodo free?

Yes. Today you can use every feature without paying or creating an account.

Where are my passwords and keys stored?

In your operating system’s keychain: Keychain on macOS, Credential Manager on Windows and Secret Service (GNOME Keyring or KWallet) on Linux. Hosts and settings live in a local database, with no secrets in it.

Can I bring my hosts?

Yes. The first time, Nodo offers to bring what you already have in ~/.ssh: the hosts in config with their jump hosts and tunnels, your keys and the servers in known_hosts. It also imports a Nodo backup or a CSV with columns like group, name, host, port and user, and uses your ssh-agent or Pageant.

Can I use Nodo on several computers?

Yes. Turn on sync in Settings: Nodo encrypts your hosts, keys, identities and snippets with a password only you know and stores them in an iCloud Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or Google Drive folder, or on your WebDAV server (Nextcloud or cPanel’s Web Disk). No accounts and no Nodo servers.

Can I share hosts with my team?

Yes, with a team vault: an encrypted vault in a shared folder (Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive or Nextcloud) or on WebDAV. The hosts you move into it reach every member with their key or password, their tunnels and an already verified fingerprint. Anyone with the team password can see and change what is there; to lock someone out, change it.

Does it work with a YubiKey?

Yes. Nodo creates ed25519-sk and ecdsa-sk SSH keys on any FIDO2 key and signs with it when you connect: it asks for a touch and, if you created it that way, the PIN. On macOS and Linux it talks to the key over USB; on Windows it works through OpenSSH’s ssh-agent. The server needs OpenSSH 8.2 or later.

Does it speak Mosh, Telnet and serial?

Yes. Mosh keeps your session alive when you switch networks (it needs mosh-server on the server and the Mosh client on your machine); Telnet and serial are there for routers, switches and boards, with speed, parity and BREAK.

Do I need to install anything on my servers?

No. The monitor, the IDE and automations work over the same SSH connection as the terminal, with standard commands and SFTP. The monitor reads /proc, so it needs a Linux server.

What does the AI assistant see?

Only what you send it: your question and, if you tick the box, the last lines of the terminal, with the passwords and tokens Nodo recognizes hidden. With a local model (Ollama, LM Studio, Jan), nothing leaves your machine. It never runs a command without your confirmation.

And the IDE’s AI agent?

It only reads and searches inside the project folder you opened; the values in .env files and other secrets are hidden before they’re sent to the model. In Manual mode, the default, it shows you every change as a diff to accept or reject and every command waits for your permission. If you want it to do more on its own, pick Accept edits, Auto (it also runs read-only commands) or Skip permissions; Plan only investigates and proposes.

Can the AI drive my remote desktop?

Yes, over RDP and VNC: it looks at the screen and uses the keyboard and mouse to do what you ask. In Auto it acts on its own and asks before anything with consequences; in Manual it waits for your go-ahead before every click; in Plan it only proposes. It needs a model that can see images: Claude, an OpenAI model or a vision model on your computer.

How much does the AI spend?

Every chat shows the tokens the conversation has used and, with Claude, roughly what it costs at Anthropic’s API prices. With a local model you pay nothing.

Link to this question
Can I use my Claude subscription?

No: Anthropic doesn’t allow other apps to use a Pro or Max subscription or the claude.ai sign-in. In Nodo you can use an Anthropic API key, billed by usage, or a free local model.

How does it update?

On its own. Nodo checks for new releases when it opens, downloads them in the background, verifies their signature and asks before restarting.

Link to this question
Why does my system warn me when I open it?

Because the installers don’t carry Apple or Microsoft certificates yet. Updates are signed with Nodo’s own key. The instructions for each platform, in the download section, explain how to open it the first time.

Is the app in English?

Yes. Nodo is in English and Spanish and follows your system’s language. You can change it in Settings › Appearance › Language.

Is there a mobile app?

Not yet. It is on the way, with the same encrypted sync.
